Mini Thinkers director Macaela van Aart said the Musselburgh Rise site was being cleared of debris so Amalgamated Builders could begin construction of the centre.
Designed by Christchurch company Foley Group Architecture, the centre would be open in November.
Three houses had been transported from the site to make way for the centre and an off-street car park.
