Sound filled the halls at Otago Museum yesterday as more than 100 museum-goers flocked to the Atrium to get a glimpse of the Dunedin City Choir in full festive spirit.

For the second round of songs at the venue that day the choir belted out popular Christmas hits and carols along with a newly commissioned piece He who made the earth so fair with music from Dunedin composer Alex Campbell-Hunt.

People of all ages were huddled together on couches and chairs as the sound of the skilled vocalists filled the halls around them.

Tucked away on the staircase was City Choir member Jocelyn Le Petit who had come along to support her fellow singers, despite not performing herself.

She said the choir had performed about three festive events this season, and each was "a really special event".

"I’m excited to hear the carols, I’m having a really great time," Ms Le Petit said.

On all levels of the museum patrons stopped and looked up for a moment to enjoy the carols echoing through the venue.

The choir members performed acoustically, with piano accompaniment and dressed for the occasion in shades of of red and green.
