The beautification of Mosgiel will continue, with a mural to be painted on a brick wall on the south side of the Mosgiel RSA car park.
The RSA, a local advocate, the Mosgiel Business Association and Dunedin artist Daniel Mead met last week to discuss the design of the mural.
Design concepts were still at an early stage but Mosgiel RSA president Noel Graham said he would like the mural to have a military theme.
This would be in keeping with the RSA's internal artwork, which features a painting of New Zealand Victoria Cross winner Willie Apiata overseeing business behind the bar.
RSA member and mural advocate Mike Court said his wife originally "started the ball rolling'' after a few drinks when she suggested it would be nice to have a mural on the adjacent wall.
Mr Court then took the idea to the community board who supported it and then proposed it to Mr Graham and hospitality manager Jill Magon.
Keep Dunedin Beautiful put Mr Court in touch with Mr Mead, who will paint the mural.
Mr Mead said once a design had been approved, the mural project could take up to a month.
Asked how he made a concept into a piece of art, Mr Mead said that it was about understanding local perspectives.
"You have to use your own way to try and tell another person's story.''
