A 12-year-old has been referred to Youth Aid after allegedly stealing his mother's car and taking friends on a joy ride.
Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond, of Dunedin, said the boy stole the car from the Riselaw Rd property on Sunday night and returned it at 9am yesterday.
Police were unsure what the group did overnight, he said.
