A visit from Jo Goodhew to the Mosgiel RSA went ''extremely well'', volunteer Jocelyn Faul says.

''She was delightful,'' she said.

''She spent a lot of time with the volunteers, talking to them, and asking them about their roles.''

The National MP and community and voluntary sector minister's visit last Friday came before volunteer week this week, and was enjoyed at the Mosgiel RSA by about 40 of its volunteers.

Ms Faul said Mrs Goodhew spoke ''about the role of volunteers in the community, ... she spoke about how unique New Zealand was in the numbers of volunteers it had and the contribution volunteers make to society''.

''She did well,'' she said.

Mrs Goodhew was also ''extremely impressed'' with the Mosgiel RSA, Ms Faul said.

The Mosgiel RSA's recent redevelopment, for which Ms Faul was project manager, set the RSA apart from others around the country, she said.

''The Mosgiel RSA has stepped away from what's happening with other RSAs in the country ... and moved away from the old boozer mentality and moved into a community focus,'' Ms Faul said.

''[Jo Goodhew said it was] a lovely place to visit ... in contrast to other RSAs.''
