A Mosgiel man has suffered serious injuries after being trapped under a piano.
Emergency services were called to a Wingatui Rd address just before 11am yesterday.
St John South Island region communications adviser Ian Henderson said the man was trapped outside a private residence.
St John sent two ambulances.
The man, aged in his 50s, was taken to Dunedin Hospital in a serious condition, he said.
It is understood he suffered chest injuries.
Senior Station Officer Martin Jansen, of Mosgiel, said it was unclear how the ''solid, wooden'' piano landed on the man.
Two appliances attended, but the man was free by the time firefighters arrived.
The piano was too heavy for firefighters to lift when they were trying to tend to the man, he said.
''It took two firefighters to move it - push it, not picking it up,'' he said.
''We couldn't physically pick it up.''
