Dunedin children made the most of chocolate festivities on offer during the third day of the Cadbury Chocolate Carnival yesterday.

One of the highlights was the Cadbury Crunchie Train, which travelled up the Taieri Gorge, and had a few surprises in store.

Fiona Kyle took her three children, Sebastian, Bennedict and Felix and their friend Matai Makatea on the journey.

They all got dressed up as cowboys and "loved it", she said.

The train stopped at Hindon, where passengers took part in a "treasure hunt" for Crunchie bars.

Bandits then boarded the train and tried to steal all the chocolate bars.

At Mosgiel, a sheriff boarded the train and apprehended the two men.

He handed them over to police at Dunedin, much to the delight of the children.

Other activities included creating a painting with chocolate at the Dunedin Community Gallery, making a butterfly or gecko with chocolate at the Otago Museum, a Blue Light Disco at the Dunedin Police Station and tours of Chancarla Farm Park.
