Safety in numbers is giving even the shyest closet dancers the opportunity to swing their hips in public this weekend, during a mass zumba party at Forsyth Barr Stadium.

Up to 500 people are expected to participate in the Saturday event, organised by Dunedin zumba instructor Emily Rutherford, seen using a segmented mirror to practise her routine, to raise money for the New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation.

She will be joined by 20 other instructors from around Otago on three stages inside one of the stadium's corporate rooms from 2.30pm.

People of all ages and sizes were encouraged to attend and wear something pink to show their support for those with breast cancer.

Entry was a minimum $5 donation. Raffles - with donated prizes - would be available.

Miss Rutherford said the hour-long zumba class would include popular music as well as easy-to-follow dance routines.
