Moana Pool in Dunedin has been recognised for its accessibility efforts.

The facility has been awarded a silver rating from accessibility assessment group Be Accessible, with a score of 79%.

Pool manager Nicola Smith said the assessment was sought to reveal where improvements could be made.

"We always look at accessibility and have worked to get equipment in but we wanted to see what else we could do. It was great to do so well on our initial assessment, and it's highlighted some areas we can improve on as well.''

The pool was commended for services including the text-to-speech option on its website, car parking, accessible routes for users, and trained staff who could assist in emergencies.

The evaluation revealed a need for a larger font on printed materials and improvements for the visually impaired.

"We'll be working to improve before we're reassessed. We'll be going for gold next time.''

The Dunedin Public Art Gallery also has a silver rating and Toitu a gold rating.
