An eagle-eyed bus driver and the owner of a missing wallet perfectly timed their entry into the Dunedin Police Station yesterday.
Sergeant Ben Butterfield, of Dunedin, said the man's wallet had been left on the roof of his vehicle after he and his wife left the Waikouaiti races on New Year's Day.
The wallet was later spotted on the road by a passing bus driver.
The bus driver yesterday visited the station to hand over the wallet, which contained cash and other personal effects, at exactly the same time its owner was asking about the missing item.
''It is the first time I have ever seen that happen,'' Sgt Butterfield said.
''It shows the honesty of good Dunedin folk.''
