A trainee pilot was involved in a crash landing at Dunedin Airport during her first solo flight.
The woman was uninjured and the plane, a Cessna 152, sustained minor damage during the crash, which occurred about 10.20am on Saturday.
A Civil Aviation Authority spokesman said the accident appeared to have been the result of an "awkward landing manoeuvre".
"The aircraft, a Cessna 152, bounced three times upon landing and on the third bounce the nose gear collapsed," he said.
"CAA acted quickly and requested that the runway was cleared and this was done very promptly by the airport operator to minimise disruption for other runway users.
"The CAA Safety Investigation Unit is gathering information from the first responders, including police, and reviewing photographs from the scene of the accident," the spokesman said.
Police confirmed they responded to the incident, which they described as minor.
Mainland Air Services chief executive Philip Kean said the woman involved in the "landing mishap" was among several students at the facility on Saturday.
She had shown no nerves despite the incident and was "back out flying now" when the Otago Daily Times visited shortly after 11am.
"She came back in [following the crash] and sat back in class again," Mr Kean said.
"No shock or anything.
"She’s gone back out again with an instructor."
The plane was on the ground and travelling about 40kmh when the incident occurred. It was "not flyable" following the landing, but its damage was only "very, very, minor", he said.
An Air New Zealand flight due to land from Wellington was delayed as a result of the incident, but no other air traffic was affected.
