Police have arrested a 40-year-old self-employed Ashburton IT specialist and a Dunedin man for allegedly "stealing to order" nearly $40,000 worth of electrical equipment from two Dunedin stores last month.
The IT specialist allegedly arranged for two Dunedin men, both sickness beneficiaries, to burgle Magnum Mac in Crawford St on January 8, and Betta Electrical in Hillside Rd on January 21, Detective Stan Leishman, of Dunedin CIB, said.
More than $15,000 worth of computer equipment, including 34 iPods, was stolen from Magnum Mac and $22,000 worth of electrical equipment, including 18 LCD televisions, four microwaves and two vacuum cleaners from Betta Electrical, he said.
Police recovered most of the property from an Ashburton address, and the IT specialist and a 38-year-old Dunedin man have been arrested.
A third man, also aged 38, had been identified and police were hoping to arrest him by today, he said.
The men are expected to appear in the Dunedin District Court on Monday on charges of burglary, with more charges likely.
