Chairwoman of the reunion organising committee Gaye Cowie said the friendships they all formed while at the boarding house was the reason why people travelled from as far afield as the United States and England to the reunion - which marked 50 years since the Tolcarne boarding house was built.

The reunion was a "wonderful" opportunity to meet old friends and see how the boarding house had changed over the years, she said.

Gabrielle Dick, of England, who stayed at the boarding house when it first opened in 1962, said the reunion was a "great opportunity to come home" after living in England for 41 years. She and her friends had very fond memories of their time at the boarding house.

"I felt as though I lived in an Enid Blyton boarding school book the whole time I was here," she said.
