Member of public stops erratic driver

A member of the public intervened to stop a suspected drink-driver who was driving erratically on State Highway 1 south of Dunedin yesterday afternoon.

Police said they were alerted by another motorist that someone was driving erratically on Allanton-Waihola Rd about 5pm.

When police arrived at the scene, both drivers had pulled over, with the member of the public stopping the suspected drink-driver from leaving.

As a result, a 37-year-old Dunedin woman was facing charges of driving with excess breath-alcohol level and driving while disqualified .

It was thought the member of the public stopped the woman and then asked for her keys, but the women refused to hand them over.

Other details about how the member of the public stopped the car and then prevented the woman driving off remained unknown last night.

The woman was due to appear in the Dunedin District Court on September 26.
