Maori Party to fly banner

The Maori Party will take its election campaign to the skies over Dunedin next month.

Party representatives plan to fly their distinctive banner, trailing from an aeroplane, during activities in each of the seven Maori electorates.

Maori Party Te Tai Tonga electorate candidate Rahui Katene said the banner would probably be flown in the sky over Dunedin on October 12, to coincide with two important hui to be held in the city that day.

Ikaroa-Rawhiti candidate Derek Fox said kite-flying was a part of Maori culture, and kites, or manu aute, could be used to tell the future.

"We hope that people all over the country will study its flight as we take it round the seven [Maori] electorates, and see a clear sign for how they should vote in the coming election," he said.
