Man wanted on fraud counts turns himself in

A man wanted all over the country on fraud charges handed himself in to Dunedin police yesterday.

Senior Sergeant Craig Brown said the man was wanted on dozens of fraud charges in various centres, including Christchurch, Whanganui, Wellington and Auckland.

The man faced at least 30 charges, but it was likely more would arise, Snr Sgt Brown said.

The charges related mainly to the fraudulent use of credit cards.

A warrant for the man's arrest was issued in February and the alleged offending was committed between late last year and this month.

After a month of avoiding arrest, the man walked into the Central Dunedin Police Station on Tuesday night and told staff police were looking for him and he was handing himself in.

The man was remanded in custody when he appeared in the Dunedin District Court yesterday.
