Police believe a hunted man is evading them with help from the public.

Jaden Luke Kahuroa is wanted by Southern police on multiple arrest warrants following a series of violent domestic incidents in Invercargill last month.

Detective Regan Fahey, of Invercargill CIB, said Kahuroa was wanted on warrants for aggravated burglary, burglary, assault, possession of an offensive weapon and breach of a protection order.

The charges stemmed from two incidents, one of which involved Kahuroa threatening a woman with a weapon at an Invercargill address last month, he said.

''He's well known to us,'' Det Fahey said.

''If anyone knows where he is, we want to know.''

The woman was known to Kahuroa, police said, although they would not elaborate on the details of the alleged offending.

The woman was shaken by the incident but was not seriously injured, he said.

Kahuroa was ''actively hiding'' from police and it was believed members of the public were assisting him, he said.

''It's well known that we would like to speak to him,'' Det Fahey said.

''His family are all aware.''

Kahuroa was known to travel between Invercargill and Christchurch, but could be anywhere throughout the Southern district including Dunedin, he said.

Members of the public should not confront or approach Kahuroa, but instead call 111 if he was seen.

Kahuroa is aged 27, 174cm tall and of medium build.

He has several tattoos including a skull and roses on his left forearm, a tribal tattoo on his right forearm, and a single diamond tattooed beside his left eye.

Kahuroa has a history of violent offending, including assaulting a woman in 2012.
