Man killed in Dunedin crash

Police have confirmed a 35-year-old male died after a car crash in Wakari, Dunedin on Saturday night.

Emergency services were called to Taieri Rd, near Broomlea St at 9.20pm, after a vehicle crashed lost control and collided with a parked car.

Two people were thrown from the vehicle, including the 35-year-old driver of the car and his 40-year-old female passenger, Acting Sergeant Dean Pearce said.

The man died at the scene and the woman was taken to Dunedin Hospital with moderate injuries.

Speed, alcohol, not driving to the conditions, and not wearing seatbelts appeared to be factors in the crash.

The death has been referred to the coroner.
