A pair of archaeologists inspect a Port Otago construction site where the company’s former administration building once was.

Marine and infrastructure general manager Grant Bicknell said the archaeologists were part of the consent process to remove the material on the site.

The work was "business as usual", he said.

The administration building known as "the glass house" was demolished in December last year.

Port chief executive Kevin Winders had said the site would be used to process containers.

The future for development at the site was undecided.

The archaeological examination is occurring at the location of the small former Port Otago office building, as shown in the photograph (at left) from the late 1800s.
