Long-serving chief executive says goodbye

Outgoing Presbyterian Support Otago (PSO) chief executive Gillian Bremner was thanked yesterday at an event marking almost a quarter century at the helm of the organisation.

Mrs Bremner was finishing up her last week in the role before departing for Botswana at the end of April, where husband Graeme had been appointed associate professor at a university in the town of Palapye.

Several speakers at the First Church event, including PSO chairman David Richardson, described her as a staunch advocate for the disadvantaged and vulnerable.

''She was a legend for those who needed a hand-up,'' he said.

Mrs Bremner said she had no intention of taking it in easy in Palapye, which is near the South African border, where she intended to open a nocturnal wildlife tour business and wedding venue.
