The first "Artists in the Terminal" exhibition, by Dunedin artist Sam Foley, was hung in the airport yesterday.
"With all the foot traffic through here, it's well worth it," Foley said, during the hanging of eight of his works.
"It will expose visitors to some of the art we produce here."
The initiative would also make the airport a more stimulating environment for travellers, Dunedin Airport marketing manager Anne Tipa said.
"We wanted to incorporate some sort of relaxation experience in the terminal for people.
"People want more than good food and drink when they travel and to actually have an experience," she saidThe exhibitions would be rotated every two months, she said.
The next exhibition, by Dunedin artist Kerry Fenton-Johns, will be hung in December.
Artists and galleries were invited to submit works to be exhibited in the terminal, Dunedin Airport manager John McCall said.
