Further rain is predicted for Otago tomorrow, but authorities say it is unlikely to cause concern for those affected by flooding and slips caused by the weekend’s deluge.
The MetService said further rain was expected in eastern Otago tomorrow and on Thursday, but only light rainfall was expected.
‘‘It’s not going to be a major event,’’ meteorologist Tom Bell said.
‘‘For Otago we are currently just expecting a few showers. The worst of the rain looks like it mostly skips over that area.’’
The worst of the rainfall was predicted to fall in Canterbury on Thursday, he said.
Dunedin City Council strategy and governance general manager Sandy Graham said authorities were pleased with how infrastructure performed during the weekend’s deluge and there were no fears further rain would overburden it.
The forecast rain was not expected to be a problem for Dunedin or the wider area.
Meanwhile, snow was expected as low as 200m in Otago, Southland and Canterbury and even lower in the far south later in the week, MetService said.
