Less than 24 hours from the first NCEA and New Zealand Scholarship examinations of 2011, 6358 Otago secondary school pupils are cramming in every scrap of information they can.
The first major exam will be NCEA level 2 English tomorrow afternoon, and the largest exam in Otago will be level 1 English next Wednesday with 2118 candidates.
They will be among more than 143,000 candidates nationwide sitting NCEA and New Zealand Scholarship exams this year.
New Zealand Qualifications Authority deputy chief executive, qualifications, Bali Haque said more than 1.5 million examination booklets had been produced for the examinations, including some Braille papers produced by the Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind and papers for visually impaired candidates, which have been enlarged to A3 size.
In a bid to move NZQA towards a "paper-less system", Mr Haque said candidates would be able to view their results online in mid-January. Result notices could be requested for receipt in early January via the NZQA website.
Candidates will also be able to receive updates and any emergency information about exams via a new NCEA Twitter site (www.twitter.com/#!/nceaexams).
The 2011 exam season will finish on November 30.
