The trust has donated $75,000 to the Historic Cemeteries Conservation Trust to restore the prominent Dunedin businessman and MP's tomb at Dunedin's Northern Cemetery.
It was one of 25 donations from the community trust to organisations throughout Otago during November, totalling $254,000.
Cemeteries trust chairman Stewart Harvey said the tomb, modelled on the First Church in Moray Pl, was originally built at the Northern Cemetery for Larnach's first wife Eliza Jane, and had many magnificent architectural features.
It is hoped the restoration project, which will cost about $350,000, will begin in the new year and be completed by the end of 2010.
As part of the restoration, the tomb would be protected by security measures which would make it "vandal-proof".
"I'm over the moon. This is a very important heritage item for Dunedin. There's nothing else like it in New Zealand or the southern hemisphere."
