Large flames in South Dunedin have caught the attention of social media users.
Members of the public have contacted the fire service about flames coming from Warehouse Stationery in Andersons Bay Rd, a fire service spokesman says.
However, the flares were the result of Nova Energy in Hillside Rd "venting" gas.
"People looking from a distance thought it was flames coming from Warehouse Stationery,'' the spokesman said.
A number of users of Twitter and Facebook commented on the flares and feared there was a large fire in South Dunedin.
