A job listing for an overnight manager, posted yesterday, said the new store was anticipated to open in mid to late April.
This is about one and a-half months earlier than a previous job listing that approximated a June opening.
Kmart did not respond to questions from the Otago Daily Times about a specific day the store would be opening and the number of staff it would employ.
Otago Land Group owner Martin Dippie, who is developing the site, previously said contractors were aiming to finish construction on the building by April.
Dunedin has been without the Australian-owned retailer since the 2020 Covid lockdown.
It cited concerns about required seismic strengthening work within its Meridian Mall premises, and chose to vacate the building.
News about Kmart’s return to the city first broke in October 2022.
The retailer announced it had found a new home in the former Smiths City site, in Andersons Bay Rd, South Dunedin.
After a 1000sq m concrete extension to the site, in October last year, the building now measures 4000sq m.
