Cook Brothers Construction redevelopment site manager Steve Jory said they would be ideal for anyone wanting to furnish a man cave or a caravan, and they were in pretty good condition, considering how many bottoms had sat on them over the years.
"They just need a good wipe down, a bit of a steam clean.
"They probably still feel a bit like 11 herbs and spices — greasy."
Mr Jory said Cook Brothers often gave away "used sustainable materials" from construction sites that could be recycled or repurposed, because the building industry created about 50% of all landfill in New Zealand.

"It’s an ongoing battle trying to find places to take those things.
"We’re a wee bit far away from the main centres of Auckland and Wellington, where maybe that type of recycling is easier to do.
"As an industry, we need to be better, so as a company, Cook Brothers are trying to do their bit to be a bit more sustainable."
