It was announced in March that Kavanagh College would rebrand to Trinity Catholic College, a change which would be made by the new year.
It followed a 2020 investigation into Bishop of Dunedin John Kavanagh, whom the school was named after.
Catholic Bishop of Dunedin Michael Dooley, who made the decision to change the name, said the change symbolised a new phase for the school.
"A name is important."
The school had been preparing for the name change for a long time and it had done a good job transitioning, he said.
The school’s signage, website and social media sites have all been changed to the new name.
The 2020 investigation found that Bishop Kavanagh knew of sexual abuse complaints reported by pupils related to two priests, one of which he failed to investigate.
At the time of the initial announcement Bishop Dooley said he hoped "the renaming of the college will contribute to some healing and reaffirm our desire as a church to listen to victims of abuse and work hard to provide a safe environment for those in our care."
The new name for the college affirmed the Christian belief in the Trinity which is God revealed as Father, Son and Holy Spirit, a community of love, he said.
