Long-time David Bain supporter Joe Karam has begun defamation proceedings against two men involved with the Justice for Robin Bain Group.
Asked for comment on a media statement from the group, Mr Karam said last night one claim was made against Kent Parker and Vic Perkiss as individuals.
A second claim had been lodged against TradeMe in relation to its message boards.
The statement, from Mr Parker, said Mr Karam's claim included 194 citations involving 18 different people and 12 items of alleged damage.
It said the group would be defending Mr Karam's claim and would "maintain that it is improper and vexatious".
The Robin Bain group has been organising a petition calling on Justice Minister Simon Power to deny David Bain's application for compensation for the time he spent in prison after being convicted in 1995 of the murders of five members of his family in Dunedin.
Mr David Bain was acquitted of the murders in a retrial last year.
Neither Mr Karam nor Mr Parker would comment further because the matter was before the courts.
