Inquiry into sexual assault continues

Police are remaining tight-lipped about the investigation into a sexual assault in the Ross Creek reserve late last year.

A 23-year-old jogger ran to a Cannington Rd address and banged on the door for help after being tied up and sexually assaulted in the reserve about 9.15pm on November 30, police said at the time.

Southern police would not be drawn yesterday on what the inquiry had uncovered.

‘‘The investigation is still ongoing,'' a spokesman said.

Police would not comment on the origin of cable ties used to restrain the victim, whether any vehicles were identified, or the number of suspects spoken to.

‘‘To date, no-one has been arrested or charged.''

At the time, Detective Senior Sergeant Kallum Croudis described the assault as a ‘‘blitz-type attack'' carried out a by a Caucasian man wearing a black balaclava and black clothing.

An identikit image was released of a man police believed was involved, but it led to no arrest.

A similar attack days later in Canterbury was reported to police in December.

On that occasion, another jogger was physically restrained and sexually assaulted in a horticultural block near Lincoln University.

The Southern police spokesman reiterated yesterday that there was ‘‘nothing to suggest these incidents are related''.
