Hillary collection highlighted

The Otago Museum has been highlighting its ''significant collection'' of artefacts involving Sir Edmund Hillary, to coincide with his climbing Mount Everest 60 years ago.

In a report, museum director Ian Griffin noted that items from the museum's Hillary collection had recently appeared in a full-page article in Air New Zealand's Kia Ora magazine. Feedback from visitors indicated the article had boosted numbers viewing the Hillary collection.

The museum was also offering community programmes in association with the anniversary of the 1953 climb, Dr Griffin said.

A touch screen had been installed in the museum atrium to enable visitors to ''trek to Everest Base Camp''.
