Hanover St has become Dunedin’s go-to location for those wanting to test for Covid-19.

On Tuesday, the Dunedin Immunisation Centre began to offer rapid antigen and PCR tests, following the closure of the Malcolm St testing centre last Friday.

WellSouth clinical director Dr Carol Atmore said in a statement earlier this month that with Rats available at more than 50 sites across the district and more than a dozen in Dunedin, few people were going to the testing centre.

However, where needed, testing was available at the immunisation centre and through general practices.

"Covid continues to circulate in our community and will likely increase as people move around over the holiday period," she said.

"It is really important for people to have tests and masks on hand [and] to test if they have cold and flu-like symptoms or if they are a household contact."
