770 new Covid cases, four deaths in South

There are 770 new community cases of Covid-19 and four deaths in the South to report.

The Ministry of Health said in a statement this afternoon that nationally, there have been 10,191 new community cases in the past two days, 371 current hospitalisations and 14 deaths. 

The seven-day rolling average of community cases today is 6,202  - last Monday, it was 6,885.

Today’s reported deaths include seven recorded yesterday and seven recorded today. They take the total number of publicly reported deaths with Covid-19 to 1243 and the seven-day rolling average of reported deaths is 10. 

The latest deaths include four from the Southern DHB area, five from Canterbury, two from the Auckland region and one each from Northland, Waikato and Taranaki.

Two people were aged in their 50s, one in their 60s, four in their 70s, five in their 80s and two were aged over 90.

Of these people, eight were men and six were women. 

Hospitalisations

There are 32 people in hospitals in the Southern DHB area and nationally nine people are intensive care or a high-dependency unit.
