The pedestrian killed by a truck in Dunedin last week has been described as "one of the good guys".

Police yesterday named Jason Bryan Anderson (48), of Timaru, as the man who died after being struck by a truck at the Caltex fuel stop in Fryatt St on October 22.

In a statement, police said their thoughts were with Mr Anderson's loved ones, and inquiries into his death were ongoing.

Mr Anderson worked as an operations manager for fishing company Jaico Ltd.

Before that, he worked at Sanford in Timaru for more than a decade.

Friend and former colleague Steve Coles said Mr Anderson "was just one of those great people that made it enjoyable to come to work".

"Nothing was ever a bother. He just got on and did what needed to be done with a smile and positive attitude," he said.

"Jase was always ready to lend a hand and do whatever he could to help out, both at and away from work.

"He was one of the good guys and will be sadly missed by all at Sanford who knew him."

A death notice published in The Timaru Herald said Mr Anderson was a "dearly loved" husband of Carolyn, a loved father and father-in-law of Nathaniel, Juanita, Jess and Allan, and David, and a loved granddad of all his grandchildren.

His funeral will be held at Timaru's Aoraki Funeral Services Chapel on Friday.
