After spending six weeks in a "country music person's paradise", Merv Pulham is bursting to return.

The Dunedin man travelled to the United States last month, with his wife Norma and son Blair, to be inducted into the country's Old Time Country Music Hall of Fame in LeMars, Iowa.

He played at the 34th annual Old Time Music Festival, which had 10 sound stages for more than 600 performers.

"It was great," he said.

Performing three times a day for seven days was an experience of a lifetime for the musician, who had the honour of singing "with some of the best in Nashville".

Spending more time on the main stage was in his sights as he had already received an invitation to return next year.

"I had grown men crying, not wanting me to leave, because they wanted me to go touring with them."

When they were not at country music concerts or sightseeing, Mr Pulham was busy restocking his wardrobe with about 20 new shirts, three pairs of boots, two hats and various belt buckles.
