A group of young people got into trouble in the water at Dunedin's St Kilda Beach tonight, but all have now been accounted for.
Otago Surf Life Saving search and rescue co-ordinator Max Corboy said eight people were caught up in the incident and an inflatable rescue boat did a sweep of the area to ensure everyone was safe.
They were understood to be a school group from Germany.
The incident happened near the St Kilda Surf Life Saving Club.
Police said they were notified at 8.55pm that several people appeared to be in trouble in the water.
A Hato Hone St John ambulance was sent, but no one needed to be treated.
