The proposal to designate an area in central Dunedin as a bus hub has been given the green light.

In a decision released today, indepdendent commissioners Gary Rae and Gavin Lister recommended that an area on Great King St, between Moray Pl and St Andrew St, be designated for that purpose.

The report said the Otago Regional Council's plan would "maintain or enhance the amenity of the locality'', subject to an appropriate design, and would lead to "efficient outcomes in the provision of public transport services in Dunedin''.

Current designs include 10 bus bays on Great King St, electronic timetables, public toilets, bike stands and new plantings.
