Go-ahead for city bus hub recommended

A consultant planner has recommended the proposed Dunedin bus hub go ahead.

Planner Robert Buxton's report to a hearings committee, set to consider the issue from October 24, recommends it confirm a notice of requirement the Otago Regional Council lodged with the Dunedin City Council.

In July, the city council decided to hold a public hearing for the bus hub.

The hub, between Moray Pl and St Andrew St, is planned to include 10 parking bays for buses, five on each side of the road, and two loading zones for businesses.

New, more advanced bus shelters would be provided, and, eventually, ''real time''
electronic displays showing when buses would arrive.

The hub is a key part of a $3million transport project.

The city council received 22 submissions before hearings, 12 opposing the development, seven supporting and three neutral.

Of the 22, 14 indicated they wanted to speak at the hearing.

Mr Buxton included conditions on noise mitigation and CCTV coverage in his recommendation.
