Fortune Theatre productions Wuthering Heights, The Pitman Painters and The 39 Steps have won the lion's share of nominations for the inaugural Dunedin Theatre Awards.
Otago's only professional theatre company has received 13 nominations for the awards, which will be announced at a red carpet function at the Fortune Theatre on Friday.
The best male performance award will be decided between Andrew Morrison (The Dumb Waiter), John Glass (The Pitmen Painters) and Simon O'Connor (One Day).
Anna Henare has two nominations for best female performance, for The 39 Steps and Wuthering Heights, with Barbara Power the other nominee for the RSB Productions play One Day, which premiered in the St Paul's Crypt during the Otago Festival of the Arts.
The production of the year will be chosen from The Dumb Waiter (Globe Theatre), One Day (St Paul's Crypt) and Fortune Theatre productions The Pitmen Painters and Wuthering Heights.
Nominations were announced on Sunday.
"The awards are to acknowledge excellence and all the work people put into local theatre productions here in Dunedin," Dunedin director and actor Patrick Davies said.
"They're to recognise the actors, directors, designers and all the people who help behind the scenes and to honour the best and brightest of our theatre community."
A special wildcard award will also be presented to a person, event or company deserving of recognition, and Dunedin Mayor Dave Cull will present an outstanding contribution award to a person, event or company which positively affected the Dunedin theatre arts during 2010.
