A crowd of about 6500 mostly students helped electronic musician Flume begin his world tour at Forsyth Barr Stadium last night.

Australia's most popular electronic musician, who released his album Skin in May, performed hits including Never Be Like You to the crowd who sang the lyrics right back.

The crowd was treated to ground-rattling beats as well as banter from the 24-year-old Sydney native who admitted "it's freezing here but I went surfing today''.

CRS Presents music management director Paul McKessar said it was fantastic to have such a high calibre musician begin his tour in Dunedin.

"To have one of the most exciting artists in the world right now bring his full production to Dunedin is amazing.''
