Flights resume at airport (+ video)

Flights have resumed at Dunedin Airport as severe frosts have thawed.

MetService forecaster Stephen Glassey said the temperature at Dunedin Airport plummeted to -6.9degC at 8am today.

The coldest morning last year was -8decC on July 12.

Dunedin Airport spokeswoman Megan Crawford said ice on the runway prevented flights from departing or arriving the airport this morning.

A flight from Auckland scheduled to land in Dunedin at midnight was delayed and landed at 11am today.

"We didn't have any flights in or out until about 10am."

The first flight was scheduled to depart at 6.25am, and was delayed more than three hours, she said.

A flight scheduled to arrive from Christchurch was cancelled today.

The flight scheduled to leave Dunedin at 8am this morning departed at noon.

"Things are back to normal now."
