Fire crews attended a basement fire in central Dunedin yesterday.
Five appliances arrived at the incident at 110 Moray Pl about 6pm.
Senior Station Officer Mark Leonard, of Dunedin, said because firefighters arrived quickly, the damage to the building was confined its basement, where it appeared the blaze started in a music studio.
Four firefighters in breathing apparatus entered and used two hoses to extinguish the fire.
It was too soon to say what caused the fire and an investigator would attend, SSO Leonard said.
A member of a taekwondo class being held upstairs in the building said he thought it was a drill when he first heard the fire alarm, but when the class came downstairs he noticed there was smoke in the building.
