A Dunedin stick enthusiast has been smelling all sorts of potential friends outside his Roslyn home after his owners installed a canine-friendly addition to their lilliput library.
Five-year-old Schnauzer, Archie Haddow, has had to share his horde of sticks after his owners Swapna and James Haddow started a "Dog Library".
Mrs Haddow said the idea to start the library had been inspired by similar dog-centric community projects she had seen on social media.
"I thought ‘oh let’s smarten that up for Roslyn and have an actual dog library here’," she said.

"We get lots of people walking up and down the street because they go to the Town Belt to walk the dog," he said.

They had accumulated a large stock of odd sticks as Archie liked to bring home all sorts of objects during his daily outings.
It was not a problem letting other dogs find their perfect stick, because Archie was willing to share.
"He’s quite fickle — he doesn’t have a loyalty to one item in particular, so he’s quite good at parting with them."
Archie was good at patrolling the streets and recognising all the new people and dogs who came past.
"He likes to perch in my office and generally just say hello or bark at you if you’re at the library,
"He definitely knows who’s coming and going," Mrs Haddow said.
