More than 600kg of glass was recycled from iD Dunedin Fashion Shows last year and now organisers and the Dunedin City Council are upping the ante.
The council's new public recycling system is being used, and caterers Scotia and cleaners Wanaclean have committed to collecting the recycling and sorting the glass by colour.
Wanaclean regional manager Shirley Poulter said rubbish and recycling units were sited in the Dunedin Railway Station for the public to use.
Sorting discarded glass by colour meant extra work for her and her staff, but she "just hates waste" and wanted people to help lighten the load by putting their glass in the right bin.
Council waste strategy officer Catherine Irvine said the public was used to kerbside recycling and would see more public recycling stations at events.
"It will start becoming part of the operations of an event."
Last year, the iD shows produced more than a tonne of waste. About 767kg of that, including 640kg of glass, was recycled.
The glass would be sent through Dunedin's new recycling system, which sends sorted glass to Auckland to be remade into bottles. Mixed glass would only be able to be smashed and used as an aggregate.
