When tickets for Tom Jones and The Wiggles go on sale on the same day, it's not unusual to find a long queue of diverse people outside the Regent Theatre scratching their heads while talking to each other.

If you ask a young person if they are going to buy tickets for Welsh sex bomb Tom Jones, they invariably say: "Who?".

And if you ask someone from the older generation if they are buying tickets for popular infant entertainers The Wiggles, they give the same response.

The Wiggles perform regularly in the city, but what is new, pussy cat, is the appearance of Tom Jones in Dunedin.

So, people queued for up to 40 minutes in the Octagon to get tickets at the Regent Theatre when the doors opened yesterday morning.

For Sue Mullin, of Dunedin, the wait for a chance to see Tom Jones "burning down the house" in Dunedin was worth it.

"He goes right across the generations and he has a wonderful voice . . . and he's Welsh! My husband's Welsh . We love him."

One gentleman, who wanted to remain anonymous, was queuing for his wife, who had been a life-long fan of Tom Jones.

"She's got her underwear sorted and all. She's very excited - she's always wanted to see him."

Tom Jones will perform in Dunedin on February 24 and The Wiggles on April 4.
