There will be a homecoming of sorts at the Green Island Gallery this Friday.

Artist John White's paintings will be the focus of an exhibition at the gallery beginning on Friday.

The artist has strong links to Dunedin. He lived in Fairfield for many years and raised his family there.

He was excited about showing his art here, but there was also some anxiety.

''I'm nervous because I haven't been living in Dunedin for a long time,'' he said.

He specialised in scenery and wildlife.

When asked when his fascination with art began, he said: ''When I was born, always.

''I have got an identical twin brother as well ... and we are both artists.''

He grew up drawing ''like all kids do'' and the passion flourished from there, he said.

Mr White now lives in Christchurch.

The exhibition is at the Green Island Gallery, cnr Church St and Main South Rd, October 31 to November 30.
