The Coastal Classic Mountainbiking, Run and Walk at Taieri Mouth is set to hit double figures. Organiser Peter Street said all the profits from the 10th annual event would fund projects around Taieri Mouth.

The event, which starts at 10am on Sunday, November 10, begins and finishes in Livingstonia Park and raises about $4000 each year.

Past projects had including renovating the park entrance, Mr Street said.

The first race had 135 competitors, but on average the event attracted between 300 and 400 entrants, he said.

''We never imagined at the first race what this would develop into - it's quite exciting.''

The highest number of entrants was about 550 in 2011, when a run and a walk were introduced. The event includes the 12km Craypot Run, the 12km Moturata Views Walk and the 21km Akatore Challenge.

The courses included gravel roads, farm paddocks, coastal tracks, beaches and wetlands and competitors could access and enjoy rarely-seen coastal views, he said.

''Considering the time of year with lambing, we appreciate the farmers allowing us to use their land.''

The Seascape Cafe would provide free coffee, tea and muffins at the 8km mark.

The 15km, 39km and 52km mountain bike events at Akatore Forest have courses that included forestry tracks of gravel, grass and mud and views of the Otago Coast, Lake Waihola and Taieri Plain.

''Over time with logging the course and view has changed - it changes from year to year.''

There is a 6km descent through farmland, forestry track, native bush, wetlands and mud tracks before a final sprint to the finish line.

''On the day the park is full - you get a buzz when you walk around. It's a focal day for the Taieri Mouth.''

• After Labour Day, entrants can enter and pay online and people can enter on event day; registrations open at 8am.
