Enterprise Dunedin manager John Christie is leaving his city council post and has accepted a position with the Otago Polytechnic.

His resignation was announced at the Dunedin City Council’s economic development committee meeting yesterday.

Committee chairman Andrew Whiley led a series of speeches from councillors thanking Mr Christie for his work and wishing him well.

Mr Christie has managed Enterprise Dunedin, the council’s economic development and destination marketing agency, since 2014.

"You’ve been involved in everything that has happened in Dunedin over the last 10 years in the business, tourism and events space," Cr Whiley said.

He also highlighted Mr Christie’s pivotal role in Dunedin’s sister-city relationship with Shanghai, China.

Mr Christie told the meeting the job had been enjoyable and there was immense talent within Enterprise Dunedin.

He was previously the Otago Chamber of Commerce chief executive.

Mr Christie is to be the polytechnic’s campus manager in Cromwell from next year.

He would be in Dunedin intermittently, he said.
