Pacific Dawn cruise ship passengers Elizabeth and Betty Giessler, of Queensland, Australia, admire the Dunedin Railway Station yesterday.

The vessel's departure (shown berthed at Port Chalmers) and its 1900 passengers at 5.30pm marked the end of the 2010-11 cruise ship season, which saw 66 visits.

The season, which began on October 19, with the arrival of Sapphire Princess, saw the cancellation of two visits, by Pacific Jewel and Dawn Princess, and poor weather delayed the Christmas Day arrival of Dawn Princess.

Next season, 77 cruise ships are scheduled to visit Dunedin, almost a dozen more than this year, including two on Christmas Day, two on New Year's Eve, and the arrival of the Queen Elizabeth on February 23.
