Head girl Renata Kerr (17) and Riana Haua (15) were praised for their accomplishments in multiple fields.
Taieri College principal David Hunter said Renata was a leader at the school and performed well in all areas.
''She tries hard at everything she does and she's a good role model for younger students,'' Mr Hunter said.
Riana was given the award because she was full of potential, he said.
She was the kaea (caller) for kapa haka at the school and performs well in academics, music and sport, he said.
The girls each received a certificate, a pounamu pendant and ''mana'', Mr Hunter said.
As a senior student, Renata was awarded a scholarship to Otago Polytechnic, he said.
''Renata intends to study at the University of Otago or Otago Polytechnic next year.''
The award was given to pupils of Maori descent to celebrate their leadership, success and position as a role model.
The ceremony took place on Friday, October 28, at the University of Otago College of Education Auditorium.
